The 4 Biggest Mistakes 4.0 Players Make That Lead to More Losses Than Wins

ree

At the 4.0 level, many players have strong skills but still struggle with consistency in matches. These four common mistakes often hold players back from achieving consistent success. By identifying and correcting these issues, you can turn more losses into wins.

1. Over-Hitting the Ball

Many 4.0 players rely too heavily on power, leading to over-hitting and unforced errors. Power can be effective, but not if it results in balls flying out of bounds. Focus on controlled, well-placed shots rather than trying to overpower your opponents every time.

2. Neglecting the Third Shot Drop

Failing to consistently execute a reliable third shot drop can cost you control of the point. Instead of keeping the ball in play and moving toward the kitchen, many players hit too aggressively and leave themselves vulnerable. Perfecting this shot helps you transition to net play and dominate the game.

3. Poor Shot Selection

At the 4.0 level, players often make poor choices about when to speed up the ball or when to dink. Understanding the right moments to shift between offensive and defensive strategies is key. Forcing an aggressive shot in a bad position can lead to easy points for your opponent.

4. Weak Court Positioning

Losing focus on court positioning is a major mistake at the 4.0 level. If you or your partner leave gaps or fail to move as a unit, opponents will exploit those weaknesses. Good court awareness and teamwork are critical to success at this level.

Correcting these four common mistakes can drastically improve your game and lead to more consistent wins on the court!
